1st answer
The medieval armory, fortress, and political prison known as the Bastille represented royal authority in the centre of Paris.
The prison contained seven inmates at the time of its storming. The act was seen, by the revolutionaries, as a symbol of the monarchy's abuses of power; its fall was the flashpoint of the French Revolution.
In France, Le quatorze juillet (14 July) is a public holiday, usually called Bastille Day in English.
2nd answer
The Society of the Friends of the Constitution (French: Société des amis de la Constitution), after 1792 renamed Society of the Jacobins, Friends of Freedom and Equality (Société des Jacobins, amis de la liberté et de l'égalité), commonly known as the Jacobin Club (Club des Jacobins) or simply the Jacobins (/ˈdʒækəbɪn/; French: [ʒakɔbɛ̃]), became the most influential political club during the French Revolution of 1789 and following. The period of their political ascendency is known as the Reign of Terror, during which time tens of thousands were put on trial and executed in France, many for political crimes.
The events are as follows -
1. The king had commanded troops to move into the city. Rumours spread that
he would soon order the army to open fire upon the citizens.
2. Some 7,000 men and women gathered in front of the town hall and decided to
form a peoples’ militia. They broke into a number of government buildings in
search of arms.
3. Finally, a group of several hundred people marched towards the eastern part
of the city and stormed the fortress-prison, the Bastille, where they hoped to
find weapons.
4. In the armed fight that followed, the commander of the Bastille was killed and
the prisoners released –though there were only seven of them.
5. The fortress was demolished and its stone fragments were sold in the market.
The Bastille was hated by all, because it stood for the despotic power of the
king.
