Trace the expansion of democracy across the globe.

First Phase

1. The first phase of Democratic Expansion started with Glorious Revolution followed by French Revolution which challenged the monarchial regimes and authority of the Church and gradually moved towards establishing Democracy.

2. The formation of USA which later adopted a democratic constitution in 1787 laid the foundations of  liberal democratic institutions, though it was only in the 20th century that most of the countries granted Universal Adult suffrage.

Phase of decolonization

3. Another wave of Democratic expansion came with process of decolonization, with former colonies in Asia and Africa taking up the path democracy .

Contemporary Phase

4. The disintegration of Soviet Union  brought about a dramatic changes in the political scenario, with most of the former republics and east European countries moving towards democracy.

5.  In the 21st century we witnessed many countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and recently Pakistan making attempts to establish democratic regimes.
