Agriculture sector in our country is the backbone of its economy.

Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for more than 70% of Indians in villages.

It contributes 18% to total GDP of India in the same way agriculture sector in India is also one of the largest employer contributing 49% of net workforce.

India gained self sufficiency in foodgrains as a result of Green Revolution after independence.

Green Revolution has primarily targeted on production of food grains through scientific ways.

Success of Green Revolution made India a growth in food grain production.

Leading states in these production are Punjab and Haryana mostly.

Not only employment but agriculture also plays a significant role in food security.

As per NSSO, 2013 an average Indian spends more than half of income in food security.

Growth rate of agriculture sector in India is fluctuating and  growth rate primarily depends on rainfall as majority of cultivated area in India depends on it.
