  • The first printing press came to Goa in the mid sixteen century by the Portuguese missionaries.
  • Catholic priest prints the first Tamil book in 1580 in Cochin and in 1712 the first book was printed by them in Malayalam.
  • By mid 19th century power driven mechanical cylindrical press came into being, capable of printing 8,000 sheets per hour.
