Answer:

To boycott means to stop buying or using the goods or services of a certain company or country as a protest; the noun boycottis the protest itself. This noun comes from the name of Charles C. Boycott, an English land agent in 19th-century Ireland who refused to reduce rents for his tenant farmers

During the British rule, the East India Company established a trading monopoly in our national markets.Indian population were forced to buy the British goods only which were sold at a very high price.

That's why our national leaders started the boycott movement ,in order to protest against this trading monopoly and to establish the national industries to independently strengthen our national economy.

Not buying or using the British goods were the main motto of this movement.
