The Seven Years War — This was a global event, the wars took place between the 2 European superpowers at that time. The British Empire and The French Empire. It took place between 1756–1763 and majority of the European powers were involved. In India French with the help of the Mughal and Nawab of Bengal tried to crush the British East India Company’s expansion in Bengal but failed (Battle of Plassey and Battle of Buxar).

The Black Hole Incident — In India, the East India Company had established itself in the Carnatic region. After the Carnatic wars, the British East India Company and the French East India Company started improving their fortifications in the Bengal region anticipating another war.

In 1756, Alwardi Khan the Nawab of Bengal died and was succeeded by his 23 year-old grandson, Siraj-ud-daulah. Siraj-ud-daulah was aggressive and he wasn’t happy with the British and the French advancing their defences and he ordered then to stop (British East India Company and the French East India Company had been given the license to trade, nothing else).

The British East India Company didn't stop, hence the Siraj-ud-daulah invaded Bengal, seized Calcutta. The prisoners were given to Siraj-ud-daulah’s guards who kept them in a common dungeon in Fort William called The Black Hole (It is said that the size of the dungeon was around 18 by 14 feet with two small windows). It had around 146 people as prisoners but it actual capacity was 5–6. Out of 146 prisoners 23 survived.

This escalated quickly and in Carnatic region British East India Company formed a small council and sent out forces under Robert Clive and Admiral Watson.

This lead to the Bengal expedition of the British, which lead to the Battle of Plassey. Which resulted in the British East India Company (later called the East India Company) rule in India.

Peace!!
