My calculations:

Let “s” be the span of the bridge.

To pass the bridge completely, the train must travel (s + 50) metres

Speed = Distance/Time

Speed is 30 km/hour = 30,000 metres/(60x60) seconds.

Speed is therefore 8.333 metres per second.

The train covers the distance in 36 seconds.

Therefore the distance is 36 seconds x 8.333 metres / second = 300 metres

Since the train is 50 metres long, the span of the bridge is 250 metres.
