Answer:

relative velocity of faster train with respect to slower train is 10m/s.

for overtaking the train relative distance to be covered is 200+300=500.

so time taken is 50sec.

Given data :

➜ Length of the train = 500 m

➜ Speed of the train = 40 m/s

➜ Length of the bridge = 300 m

Solution : Here, we know that, to cross the bridge, the train must cross its length along the length of the bridge. Hence,

➜ Total distance = Length of the train + Length of the bridge

➜ Total distance = 500 + 300

➜ Total distance = 800 m

Now, by formula of speed

➜ Speed = Total distance/Time

➜ 40 = 800/Time

➜ Time = 800/40

➜ Time = 80/4

➜ Time = 20 sec

Answer : Hence,,he time taken by the train to cross the bridge of length 300 m is 20 sec.

{More info : 1 minute = 60 second

➜ 20 sec = 20/60 minute = 2/6 minute = 1/3 minute

and 1 m/s = 18/5 km/hr

➜ 40 m/s = (40 * 18)/5 km/hr = 720/5 km/hr = 144 km/hr

and 1 m = 1/1000 km

➜ 500 m = 500/1000 km = 0.5 km and 300 m = 300/1000 km = 0.3 km}
