Answer:

Speed of Train X = 28.8 km/hr

Speed of Train Y = 48 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Distance = 36 km

Let say Speed of Train y  = 4Y km / hr

Time = Distance/Speed

Time Taken by Train Y  = 36/4Y = 9/Y  hr

train x takes  30 minutes more  30 Mins = 1/2 hr

=> Time taken by X Train = 9/Y + 1/2  hr

Speed of Train Y reduced by 1/4 of its speed

1/4 of 4Y  = Y

Now Speed of Train = 4Y - Y = 3Y km/Hr

Time Taken = 36/3Y = 12/Y hr

train x takes  15 minutes more  = 1/4 hr

=>  Time taken by X Train = 12/Y  + 1/4

Equating time taken by Train X

9/Y + 1/2 = 12/Y  + 1/4

multiplying by 4Y both sides

=> 36  + 2Y  = 48 + Y

=> Y = 12

Speed of Train Y = 4Y = 48 km/Hr

Time taken by Train X = 12/Y + 1/4  = 12/12 + 1/4  = 5/4 hrs

Speed of Train X =  36/(5/4)  = 28.8 km/hr
