Given  : Trains A and B start moving at the same time from stations X and Y , respectively towards each other on  parallel tracks. After passing each other, A and B take x hours and 8 hours to reach Y and X,  respectively.

speed of B is 25% more than that of A

To Find :  what is the value of x?

Solution:

Let say Distance between Stations  =180D  km

Speed of A  = 4A  km/hr

speed of B is 25% more than that of A

=> Speed of B = 5A  km/hr

Time taken by A  = 180D/4A = 45D/A

Time taken by B  = 180D/5A = 36D/A

Let say they meet after T hrs

=> 4A * T   + 5A * T  = 180D

=> T = 20D/A hr

20D/A  +  x  = 45D/A  => x  = 25D/A

20D/A  + 8  =   36D/A => D/A = 1/2

x  = 25D/A

=> x = 25/2

= 12.5  hrs

Value pf x = 12.5
