traits acquired during the life time of the individual cannot be inherited .

this is because  variations occur in the somatic cells

( somatic cells cannot inherit or transmit the traits from parents to  the offspring )

 For example, Offspring of an hockey player may not be a hockey player.

Acquired traits are the qualifications, experiences, etc. that an individual acquires throughout his/her lifetime. As they do not affect our genetic material (i. e. DNA) it is not possible for us to pass these on to our future generations. For example: the learning of music, the art of stitching, etc.
