Trans fat is generally considered to be bad for human health because it lowers the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

Transfat or unsaturated fatty acids are widely present in packaged food, baked and fried items, frozen and processed food. Consumption of trans fat increases the levels of LDL (low-density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol) and triglycerides and lowers the level of HDL (high-density lipoprotein or good cholesterol).

HDL transmits back excess cholesterol to the liver to be broken down. This prevents the accumulation of fat deposits in arteries and prevents blockage in blood flow.
