Ans. Bob told me that he had to apply for a new job.

7) The students said, "We passed the test last week"

Ans. The students said that they had passed the test a week before.

8) Debbie told me, "I am painting the ceiling now"

Ans.  Debbie told me that she was painting the ceiling at that time.

9) Lewis said, "I won the competition last month"

Ans. Lewis said that he had won the competition the previous month.
