The additional heat is required to melt the ice without coming into notice is the latent heat of fusion. The latent heat of fusion of ice is the energy which is used to change the state of ice (solid) to water (liquid).

water is present in 3 forms, gasses, liquid and solid.... the solid is ice, liquid is in the form of water and vapour in gaseous state. ice is melted to become water due to heat.... and water when freezed becomes solid ice....
