The transformation of this sentence is

1) Every man must not die.

Concept

The theory of generative grammar in linguistics, particularly for natural languages, includes transformational grammar (TG) or transformational-generative grammar (TGG). It views grammar as a set of rules that creates precisely the word combinations needed to build grammatical sentences in a particular language and uses defined procedures (referred to as transformations) to create new sentences out of preexisting ones. The American linguist Noam Chomsky is often mentioned in connection with this approach.

Although Albert Sechehaye had described the technique before him in 1908, structural linguist Louis Hjelmslev was the first to apply it to general linguistics. Chomsky learned about transformations from his tutor Zellig Harris, who adhered to the descriptivist separation of semantics and syntax in America.
