Suppose there are two energy levels A, B in a spin system. A microwave pulse is to make the transition happen, similar to so-called ESR method. I'm wondering, what will happen if the initial state was a superposition of A and B. I'm a junior undergraduate having just learned quantum mechanics but am still confused. I know the dynamics can be described by rotation in the Bloch sphere. But does that mean the pulse with any energy can cause a transition, though the results are different? It may contradict with what I have learned before.
