Transitive and Intransitive verbs help write the sentence in the active or passive voice.

Explanation:

To change a sentence into passive voice, the verb must be in the transitive.
i.e. The boy kicked the ball. (The boy is the subject of the sentence. The ball is the object.) When something is being done by the subject, the sentence is in the active voice.

The verb kicked is said to be transitive because it answers the question 'what'. Kicked what? kicked the ball ....so the sentence is in the active voice.**

To change it into the passive voice, we will place the subject into the object column and vice versa. i.e. The ball was kicked by the boy. )

If the verb is intransitive, it will not answer the question, what?
for example: The boy slept on the floor.
(slept - what? You do not get an answer, therefore the verb is intransitive which cannot be changed into passive
