well...trade means, buying or selling goods and services. For the purpose of trade and our self needs, we, for example produce crops. And for that crops to reach us (the consumers), we need transport. Without transport, we could not complete the service. And for transport service to expand, we need work for them. Until we don't produce goods, we don't need to transport them.
that's why transport and trade both need each other to survive, hence they compliment each other.
