Transport routes are called basic arteries of our economy because of the following reasons:

(i) Dense network of transport is a pre-requisite for the economic development of a region or a country.  

(ii) Roads and railways are like arteries that connects areas of production with that of consumption, e.g. agricultural form is connected to agro-based industries and market.  

(iii) They also help in industrial development by collection of raw materials and distribution of finished goods
