3.64  miles/hr is  speed of the boat in still water

Step-by-step explanation:

Let say Speed of Boat in Still water  = S  mph

speed of the current is 1.5 mph

Speed against Current = S - 1.5  mph

Distance covered in 4 hrs = 4(S - 1.5)  miles

Speed with Current = S + 1.5  mph

Distance covered in 4 hrs = 4(S + 1.5)  miles

4(S + 1.5)   = 2.4 (4(S - 1.5) )

=> S + 1.5 = 2.4(S - 1.5)

=> S + 1.5 = 2.4S - 3.6

=> 1.4S = 5.1

=> S = 51/14

=>  S = 3.64  miles/hr

3.64  miles/hr is  speed of the boat in still water
