Given :   travelling salesman gets conveyance allowance rs. 5 per km from his employer. the salesman is travelling from bangalore to chennai. while going to chennai he travales at an avreage speed of 64kmph and on his return his avrage speed is 80kmph. he takes 9 hours for the double journey

To Find :  the distance betweeb bangalore and chennai?

how many can be claim as travelling allowance from his employer?

Solution:

bangalore to chennai  -  avreage speed of 64kmph

chennai  to bangalore   -  avreage speed of 80kmph

Let say Distance between bangalore chennai  = D km

Time = Distance/ Speed

bangalore to chennai   Time = D/64  hr

chennai  to bangalore   Time = D/80  hr

=> D/64  + D/80  =  9

=> multiply both sides by 320

=> 5D   + 4D  = 320 * 9

=> 9D = 320 * 9

=> D = 320 km

distance between bangalore and chennai  = 320 km

Total Distance Covered = 320 + 320 = 640 km

conveyance allowance rs. 5 per km

travelling allowance claimed from his employer = 640 * 5 = 3200  Rs
