In the lesson Kathmandu the author Vikram Seth go to two temples in Kathmandu they are Pashupatinath and baudhnath stupa .

First he went to Pashupatinath temple the author has drawn powerful images and pictures of the atmosphere of ‘febrile confusion’ outside the temple of Pashupatinath many workshipper who were trying to get priest attention where others were elbowed aside by others pushing they way to the front on the main gate a party of saffron clad westerners struggled for permission to enter inside the temple . A fight broke out between two monkeys, one chasing the other ,who jumped on to a shivalinga they ran around the temple down to holy river bagmati there is a belief that when it emerges completely the goddess will escape and evil period of kaliyug will end on earth .

Second he went to baudhanath stupa it had an immense white dome which was ringed by a road where small shops were on the outer edge there is no crowd .he saw fruit seller ,flute seller ,hawkers of post card etc who were selling Tibetan prints sliver jewellery ,Webster cosmetics etc . He also listened the sounds of film songs ,car horns ,bicycle bells ,etc ... . He also listened to flute music and said that as most universal and particular of sounds . There is no culture that does not have its flute .inspite of there differences ,every flute produces music with the help of breathe . Inspite of the difference in caste ; religion,
Gender ,etc .he also said about five different types of flute
