Trees help to anchor soils in locations that have steep grades. Also, usually where ever trees are growing, you are likely to find grasses and other ‘low to the ground species — and these anchor the soil too. Tree roots can offer a ready pathway down through the soil profile for water when it is raining or an area is having a flood. Tree roots can also help to break up the underlying parent material and allowing growth of the B and other sub-surface horizons.
