Trey is buying a computer on sale. The original price was $1,200. If the sale price is 5/6 of the original price, how much did Trey pay for the computer?

If you want to find a fraction ofsomething just keep in mind that "of" means to multiply (when dealing with fractions and percents).  In this case we want to know what 5/6 of 1200 is.  So do (5/6)*1200 and you should get the new price!

Trey pays:
 \frac{5}{6} \times 1.200 = \\ \frac{5 \times 1.200}{6} = \\ \frac{6.000}{6} = \\ 1.000
The answer is $ 1.000
