BD = 3cm

Given:

∆ACB and ∆ADB are two congruent right – angled triangles on the same base.

AB = 6 cm

AC = 3 cm

To find:

BD = ?

Solution:

In ∆ACB and ∆ADB, we have:

AB = AB (common)

BC = AD. (given,the triangles are congruent, in addition to this, their corresponding sides are of equal length.)

Angle ACB = Angle ADB (each 90°)

so, the triangles are congruent.

=> AC = BD (by cpct)

=> 3cm = BD

So, BD = 3cm.
