Given : Triangle T was dilated to form triangle T prime. Triangle T has side lengths of 36 and 18. Triangle T prime has side lengths of 20 and 10.

To Find : Which ratio is the correct scale factor?

5/18

1/2

5/9

9/10

Solution:

Let say dilation factor is x

Then    original triangle * x  =  new triangle

=>    36 * x  = 20   and  18 * x = 10

=> x = 20/36   or  x = 10/18

=> x = 5/9   or x  = 5/9

Hence Dilation factor is  5/9

correct scale factor  is 5/9
