Given :  triangle whose area is 12 cm² is transformed under enlargement about any point in space if the area of its image is 108 cm²

To find :   the scale factor of the enlargement

Solution:

A triangle is transformed under enlargement about any point in space

Any triangle enlarged would be similar to original triangle

Let say scale factor of enlargements is  k

Then ratio of sides of enlarged triangle to original triangle = k

Ratio of area of similar triangle = ( ratio of side )²

=>  108 / 12  =  (k)²

=> 9  = k²

=>  k = 3

scale factor of the enlargement  = 3
