Trichomes are not true roots.
Trichomes are hair-like fine structures found on plants, lichens and algae. It is also sometime found on eukaryotic organisms which are neither plant, fungus or animal.
Their function and structure vary from organism to organism. Mainly, it acts as a deterrent for feeding herbivores. The hair-like structures keep away frost from the surface and also help to deflect sunlight thereby protecting the soft tissues underneath.
