Hey mate
Yes , even if u don't take the variable k , u can solve the answer correctly but since trigonometry is all about ratios , you have to take variable k.


ex - Let there be a triangle ABC
P = 4 , H = 5 , B = 3
tan = P/B = 4/3

Consider another triangle DEF
P = 2(4) , B = 2(3) , H = 2(5)
tan = P/B = 8/6 = 4/3

The value of tan for both triangles is same = 4/3
But both triangles are not congruent.
Because there exists an constant (k=2) which cancels out.
