Answer:
True
- In plants, gas exchange occurs through small pores in the leaf surface called stomata.
- Stomata can open to allow the exchange of gasses and close to reduce water loss from the plant.
Functions-
Stomata are small openings on the surface of leaves surrounded with guard cells. In dicotyledonous plants stomata are only found on the lower surface of the leaves while in monocotyledonous plants they are found on both the surface of leaves.
The two main functions of stomata are as follows:
- Stomata help in exchange of gases i.e. uptake of carbon dioxide and release of oxygen.
- Stomata helps in the transpiration i.e. the loss of water from the surface of leaves in the form of water vapour. Loss of water from stomata creates upward pull which helps in absorption of water from the roots.
