• Magadha is one of the 16 mahajanapadas which existed during 6th century BCE.

• Magadha was located between Anga and Vatsa (Mahajanapadas), corresponding to the modern districts of Patna, Gaya and the pots of Shahabad.

• It was protected by the rivers Son and the Ganga in the North and West.

• Its capital was called as Girivraja or Rajagriha. In 5th Century BCE, the capital was shifted to Pataliputra.

• Magadha was an important and powerful mahajanapada.

• Magadha enjoyed and advantages geographical position.

• It had control over the iron ore deposits of South Bihar.

• This enabled them to equip themselves with effective weapons.

• Its 2 capitals Rajagriha and Pataliputra were strategically located.
