The actual distance travelled by body is called distance and the shortest distance between initial and final position of body is called displacement.displacement can never be larger than distance for example we are moving on a straight road and travels d distance and then we move back and reach at initial point.in this case our distance travelled is 2d and displacement is 0.if we dont move back and cover only d distance than our distance and displacement travelled both were equal to d.means distance can be equal to disacement but never less than displacement
