Rayon is a non-synthetic fibre, made from wood pulp, which contains cellulose. Rayon was originally called artificial silk due to its lustre and soft handle and its classified as a regenerated fibre.

Its cellulosic composition shows that many of it properties are more similar to cotton and flax, than silk.
