Try to find out if there are any hand pumps in your neighbourhood. Go to the owner or the users of a few of these and find out the depth at which they struck water? If there are any differences, think of the probable reason. Write a brief report and discuss it in your class. If possible, visit a place where boring is going on to install a hand pump. Watch the process carefully and find out the depth of the water table at that place.

"I am residing along with my family in Trichy. In my area there is water scarcity. So, in my house, we are having a hand pump.  

If the motor is not working properly, we use the hand pump to get water.

To install a hand pump first, we called the hydrology person and searched for maximum ground water source and then the boring is done with the large diesel machine.

At the 80th feet we got water trace and the bore is deepened and at 120th feet we got the rich ground water source. After that the pipes are installed in the ground and the hand pump is attached at the top of the ground.

If we mechanically push the handle of the hand pump, we can draw water."
