The climate is extremely cold with long winters and scanty rainfall. Vast stretches of land in the region are covered with snow for most time of the year. Hence, this region is not fit for agriculture. Agriculture has flourished in Asia as many rivers rise in the snow capped mountains of Asia

Because of the low and harsh climate growth rate of plant are low and mostly small plants grow like dwarf shrubs, grasses, mosses, lichens. So, tundra biome soil is unfit for growing plant and vegetation is limited in the tundra biome. Extremely cold climate. Biotic diversity is very low.
