Tungsten is a metal and a good conductor(low resistance) of heat. When used in bulb filaments it provides high resistance and helps it to glow. Does it have high or low resistance? Justify.

The reason tungsten is used is because it has the highest melting temperature of any element at 3600K, where as nichrome melts at 1600 K which is almost to cold to give off light (maybe dark red). To generate a lot of heat you need a big resistance.

Explanation:

The movement of electrons is the reason for good conductivity property shown by metals. Thus, we can say that Tungsten has a high melting point, and it has high resistivity towards heat. Tungsten is a poor conductor of electricity even though it is a metal.
