What is Turbidity? Turbidity is a test that measures how clear the water is compared to the sample water and the controlled water. There are many things water contains, such as little particles sediment from eroded soil and small microscopic organisms such as plankton which is a growing living organism in water. These things contribute to the turbidity of water.

Knowing the turbidity of water is important to the water cycle because the less turbidly, the clearer the water is, meaning it is less dense and concentrated with pollutants and particles in the water. The particles can block sunlight by clumping together preventing photosynthesis which therefore prevents the underwater plants from growing. It also is what causes fish to die. The particles in the water clogs the gills keeping the fish from getting the oxygen from the water than they need. This important to us because it disrupts the living cycle in the water, and the water cycle. The more turbidity there is, there higher the chance of drought because since it prevents sunlight it increases the temperature of the water causing the water to evaporate faster.

After studying the Turbidity of the filtered and the unfiltered water, the results have concluded that both samples are 12 mtu of Turbidity. Therefore we proved our hypothesis wrong. It can be possible that the sample water has the same turbidity as the unfiltered sample. This is probably because of the filter that is filtering the water, is not affective enough. The sample water does not meet the standards of 4-6. Thus, it can be hazardous to our health and the eco system. Finding the turbidity with this method is not recommended because it's just a comparison to the naked eye. It's not precise enough so our results might be a little off. In conclusion we believe that this water is highly contaminated with substances in the Hudson water with filter and unfiltered water. Our proposal to fix this problem is a better filter or to clean the filters out. We need to speed up the water streams because when the water is in constantly moving in a stream it filters it and it would be a less costly. Turbidity can be connected to dissolved solids because Turbidity is a measurement of dissolved solids, including PCB's. PCB's are artificial substances causes by products and chemical plants. What are dissolved solids and how can it be a measurement of turbidity? Dissolved Solids are made up of minerals such as salt, metals, cations or anions, that dissolved in water. Turbidity also relates to minerals such copper, iron, etc. because water contains many sorts material also mineral. If you want to know more about dissolved solids, PCB's, copper and iron, please visit the following sites that were just names. In conclusion, we think that Turbidity is a safe substance to have in the water. It can cause many problems in the human body and in the environment.
