Let the father's present age be x and son's age be y.

12 years ago:

Age of father = x-12

Age of son = y-12

Given:

Father's age= 2*(son's age)

So, x-12 = 2(y-12) ....(i)

Also, given

x:y = 14:9

So, x= 14y/9 ...(ii)

Substituting value of x from (ii) in (i),

we get,

(14y/9)-12 = 2(y-12)

(14y/9)-12 = 2y-24

24-12 = 2y-(14y/9)

12 = 4y/9

So, y = son's age= 27 years

From equation (ii),

x = father's age= 42 years
