Twenty four is divided into two parts such that 7 times the first part added to 5 times the second part makes 146.Find the number.

Assume x is first number and y is second number

146 = 7x + 5y

x+y = 24

Simultaneously subtract and you get

6x+4y=122

keep simultaneously subtracting x+y = 24 from what you get

5x+3y=98 ... 4x+2y=74 ... 3x+y=50 .. 2x=26

x = 13

substitue the value of x in x+y=24, you get y=11
