Let the present age be x years,

Twenty years ago the age was =(x−20) years

According to the given condition,

x−20=

 \frac{1}{3} \times \: x

⟹3(x−20)=x[Bycross−multiplication]

⟹3x−60=x

⟹3x−x=60

⟹2x=60

⟹x=30

Hence, the present age is 30 years.
