Let,

The number be x.

When we twice it, we obtain

→ 2x

According to the condition,

Twice of a number (2x) when decreased by 7 gives 45.

That means,

→ 2x – 7 = 45 –––––(1)

Now, solve it.

$\rightarrow2x - 7 = 45$

Now, transpose L.H.S. number (–7) to R.H.S. side.

After transposing the number –7 to R.H.S. it becomes +7.

$\rightarrow 2x = 45 + 7$

$\rightarrow 2x = 52$

$\rightarrow x = \cancel \dfrac{52}{2}$

$\rightarrow x = 26$

Hence,

The number is 26.

Verification :–

Substitue the value of x in equation (1),

We have,

• x = 26.

$\rightarrow 2x - 7 = 45$

$\rightarrow 2(26) - 7 = 45$

$\rightarrow 52 - 7 = 45$
