Explanation:

given Twin brothers Ajit and Ashok wrote the TCS NQT test. While Ajit scored 55% and got 5 marks below the cut off, Ashok scored 70%  and got 10 marks above cut-off and got selected for interview.  What was the maximum marks in the test .

  • Assume the maximum marks to be 100
  • Ajit scored 55 m
  • Ashok scored 70 m
  • Now let the cut off mark be c
  • so 55 m = c – 5
  • Also 70 m = c + 10
  • solving we get 15 m = 15
  •          or m = 1
  • So for 1 m = 1
  • For 100 m = 100
  • Therefore the maximum marks in the test was 100

Given:

Ajit scored 55% and got 5 marks below the cut off Ashok scored 70% and got 10 marks above the cut-off

To find:

Maximum marks in the test

Solution:

Let the maximum marks be M

Let the cutoff marks be C

Ajit scored = (55/100)*M

So, we can write : [(55/100)*M] = C-5

or, [(55/100)*M] + 5 = C -----(i)

Ashok scored= (70/100)*M

So, we can write : [(70/100)*M] = C+10

or, [(70/100)*M] -10 = C ----(ii)

Solving equations (I) and (ii), we get-

[(55/100)*M] + 5 = [(70/100)*M] -10

So, 15M/100 = 15

So, M = 100

Therefore, C = 60

Maximum marks is 100.
