It is fate that a man who has run away after stabbing someone becomes an astrologer. If it had not been for chance then the astrologer might never have met Guru Nayak, the man he had stabbed as a youngster. Fate allows the astrologer to use his techniques to get away from Guru Nayak and trick Guru Nayak into giving up his hunt for him. 

Hence, in the story, it is fate and chance which brings two men who had known each other in past face each other and allows the astrologer to use his experience in the profession to escape Guru Nayak.
