The forces are perpendicular since they have an angle 90° between them.

if we need to find resultant, we can simply use Pythogorean Theorem.

Hence the resultant magnitude is,

 \sqrt{ {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2} }

for angle other than 90 use cosine rule.
