Given : two 30 ohm resistors are connected in series. when a resistor R is connected across one of them the total circuit resistance is 40 ohms.

To Find : calculate the ohmic value of R

Solution:

Total Resistance = 30  +  1/(1/R + 1/30)  +  40

=>  1/(1/R + 1/30)   = 10

=>  1/R + 1/30  = 1/10

=> 30 + R  = 3R

=> 30 = 2R

=> R = 15

ohmic value of R is 15
