Given:

The first term of the first progression is 3 and common difference is d

3,3+d,3+2d...

The third term is 3+2d

The first term of the second progression is 8 and common difference is d

8,8+d,8+2d...

The third term is 8+2d

the difference between their 3rd term

=(3+2d)-(8+2d)

=3+2d-8-2d

=3-8

= -5

therefore ; the difference between their 3rd term is -5
