Two athletes on a team, A and B, are practising to
compete in a boat race. Athlete A has a mass of
70 kg. B has a mass of 75 kg, and the boat has
D'a mass of 20 kg. Athlete A can exert an average
force of 400 N and B an average force of 420 N
on the boat using the paddles. During paddling, the
magnitude of the water resistance on the boat is
380 N. Calculate the acceleration of the boat.

Answer:

Explanation:

=> Here, Athlete A has a mass of 70 kg. B has a mass of 75 kg, and the boat has mass of 20 kg. Thus,

total mass, m =70+75+20=165kg

=> Now, Athlete A can exert an averge force of 400 N aned B an averate force of 420N on the using paddles and during paddling the magnitude of water resistance on the boat is 380N.

So, net force, F = 400 + 420 - 380 = 820 - 380 = 440N

=> Therefore, The initial accerleration 'a' of the boat:

a = F /m

= 440 / 165

= 2.66 m/s²

Hence,  the acceleration of the boat is 2.66 m/s².
