Given Info:-

  • Two balls A and B of masses 40 g and 50 g are moving at speeds of 40 m/s and 30 m/s respectively.If after colliding, B stars moving with a velocity of 25 m/s, what is the velocity of A? That means –
  • Mass of ball, m1 = 40 g
  • Mass of ball, m2 = 50 g
  • initial velocity of ball, u1= 40 m/s
  • initial velocity of ball, u2= 30 m/s
  • final velocity of ball, v2= 25 m/s

Explanation :-

We are asked to find –

  • Final velocity of ball A (v1) = ?

\purple{\bigstar \; {\underline{\boxed{\bf{ m_1 \times  u_1 + m_2 \times  u_2  =m_1 \times  v_1 + m_2 \times  v_2 }}}}}

\longrightarrow \tt  40  \times 40 + 50  \times 30 = 40 \times x + 50\times  25\\

\longrightarrow \tt  1600 + 1500 = 40x + 1250\\

\longrightarrow \tt  3100 = 40x + 1250\\

\longrightarrow \tt   3100 - 1250 = 40x\\

\longrightarrow \tt  1850 = 40x\\

\longrightarrow \tt   x = \dfrac{ 1850}{40}\\

\longrightarrow \tt   x = \cancel{\dfrac{185}{4}}\\

\longrightarrow \tt{\pink{\underline{\underline   x= 46.25\: m/s }}}\\

  • Therefore, The final velocity of the ball A is 46.25 m/s.
