At the maximum height, velocity = 0.

     consider that as final point, final velocity = v = 0.

As it has gone vertically upwards, opposite to gravity, acceleration = - g.

Using eqs. of motion:

 ⇒ v^2 = u^2 + 2aS  

 ⇒ 0^2 = u^2 + 2(-g)S

 ⇒ u^2 = 2gS

 ⇒ u = √2gS

          Now, for each ball, let the initial velocities and heights be u₁, u₂ and S₁, S₂.

Ratio = 1:2

u₁ : u₂ = 1:2

√2gS₁ : √2gS₂ = 1:2

2gS₁ : 2gS₂ = 1² : 2²       {square on both sides}

 S₁ : S₂ = 1 : 4

       Ratio of maximum heights is 1:4
