The speed of the balls will be same after collision

relative velocity of approach is 6-(-6)=12m/s., coefficient of restitution is 1/3

put this in the above equation,

you will get relative velocity of separation=4m/s

as the balls will move in opposite direction after collision, the velocity of one ball will be 2m/s and -2m/s for other. (i.e relative velocity=2-(-2)=4m/s)

hence speed of each ball will be 2m/s

e=v2-v1/u1-u2 ;

v2=v1;
And after much solving answer is 2m/s.
